Richard Jury is described as a fictional detective
from the Scotland Yard who was was initially a chief inspector, but later gets promoted to the post of a Superintendent.
In all the cases described in the series, he is helped by British aristocrat Melrose Plant,
 who has given up his
title and now works as a part-time detective assisting Jury unofficially. Another colleague named Sgt. Alfred Wiggins,
assists Richard in solving his cases. All the book titles in this series are named after British pubs. .

#1. The Man with a Load of Mischief [1981], 9 hours 32 mins
At the Man with a Load of Mischief,
they found the dead body stuck in a keg of beer. At the Jack and Hammer, another body was stuck out on the beam of the
pub’s sign, replacing the mechanical man who kept the time. Two pubs. Two murders. One Scotland Yard inspector
called in to help. 
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Jury arrives in Long Piddleton and finds everyone in the
postcard village looking outside of town for the killer. Except for one Melrose Plant. A keen observer of human nature,
he points Jury in the right direction: into the darkest parts of his neighbors’ hearts…

When a young woman is found dead in the
snow, Richard Jury is convinced her death was not an accident. Delving into her background, Jury uncovers unlikely links

#9. The Five Bells and Bladebone 
[1987], 9 hours 33 mins
When Melrose Plant finds the body of faithless, greedy Simon Lean, there's no
shortage of suspects. Richard Jury's enquiries stir up a hornet's nest in the stately home where Simon met his
end. With another murder in London's Docklands, the killer always seems to be one step ahead of Jury...


Steve West's narration is excellent and suits these novels well.
